About the Centre of Foundation Studies (CFS), Universiti Teknologi MARA
The Centre of Foundation Studies (CFS), or Pusat Asasi, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), was established in November 2009 with the objective of providing a strong academic foundation for students to pursue undergraduate studies at UiTM as well as other institutions of higher learning, both locally and abroad. The Centre is committed to upholding academic excellence through continuous quality assurance and curriculum enhancement, in line with the university’s aspiration to produce well-prepared and competent graduates.
CFS offers five foundation programmes: Foundation in Science (PI080), Foundation in Engineering (PI009), Foundation in Law [PI005 (UiTM) and PI007 (KPT)], and Foundation in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) (PI020). Each programme is a full-time preparatory course comprising two semesters with a total of 50 credit hours. These programmes are designed to equip students with the requisite knowledge, skills, and values essential for successful transition into their respective bachelor’s degree programmes in Science, Engineering, Law, and TESL.
In addition to academic excellence, the Centre places emphasis on holistic student development. Students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities and community engagement initiatives that nurture leadership qualities, communication competence, and social responsibility. The curriculum also incorporates exposure to current local and global issues, linguistic proficiency, digital literacy, critical thinking, and creativity to ensure students are well-rounded and globally aware.
To maintain its relevance in an evolving educational landscape, the Centre continuously reviews and updates its curriculum in accordance with national and international standards. It also promotes a culture of innovation and research through the organisation of conferences, competitions, and scholarly activities aimed at fostering academic discourse and knowledge sharing.
